“Sketches on Sea” is a collection of first sketches by Sophie Hunger from the year 2006. The songs were recorded in five days in the living room of Hunger, who accompanied herself on piano, guitar and harmonica.
Alongside songs in English, there are also four vernacular tracks. Hunger also invited musician friends, amongst others the trombonist Michael Flury, who became a steady instrumentalist for Sophie Hunger from that day on. The “Sketches on Sea” album reveals Hunger’s boundless musical horizon: a world without stylistic boundaries in which the multi-instrumentalist unceremoniously skips between jazz, folk, rock and even humorous vocal parodies. One jewel, for instance, is the sketch to “The Tourist”, in which Hunger proves that one can write rock history in 41 seconds. At first the CD was handed out by Hunger as presents, sold at live shows and presented on “Myspace”, a new internet platform at the time. Thanks to these recordings, Hunger was named “the Swiss music scene’s best kept secret” (Facts ’06) within a short period of time, sending her on her way to the stages of Europe. These first musical steps are now finally available to a wide audience
